The Salvation Army barracks presented a very merry appearance last evening, when from between 500 and 600 children received a gift from the free Christmas tree provided by Adjutant Dickens. There were two trees, one for the boys and one for the girls, and were m charge of Mesdames Dickens. H. Yardley,, Coleman, Miss Collier, and Adjutant Dickens. Mr E. Yardley made an admirable Father Christmas, and his task was none too easy. Mr G. Colebrooke supplied a cask of ice cream, and his donation was great-ly-appreciated. Gramaphone selections were also given vby Mr. Har greaves. Everybody seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, and at the close Adjutant Dickens thanked the public of Gisborne for their generosity m providing ' the wherewithal to purchase the toys.
