Both Houses passed a Bill providing for the handing over of the Northern Territory to the Commonwealth. The Northern Territory contains an area of about 523,620 square miles, or 335,116,800 acres* It is bounded on the north by the Arafura Sea on the south by the 26th parallel of south 'latitude, the line of demarcation between it and South /Australia proper j on the east by the 138 th meridian of east longitude, dividing it from Queerisland, and on the west by the 129 th meridian of east longitude, separating it from West 'Australia.
