Accerding to the Revue de Lausanne, Professor Joly, while making a geological examination of the stones, debris, and strata extracted from the centre of tlie Simplon Tunnel, discovered deposits bf radium richer than any yet met with m Europe. Professor Joly is of opinion that the abnormal heat experienced during the construction of the. tunnel was caused by the presence of large quantities of this substance. His researches are being continued.
