NEW CARD GAME.
POKER AND WHIST TO BE PLAY-
ED WITH DOMINOES
\ Pokei^dominoes will be the new game for the winter season. It is not, un tV. sense, a "new" game; it is rather tho\ application, of a new principle to doriiinoes. f
Poker-dominbes. »» . fact, is likely to establish itself . -as -Ar permanency -with draughts, chess, or ordinary car-Is. > " The game is a.qarpfully thought out mathematical combination, of cards! andX dominoed, and consists of thirty-six If stones on .which ,tks., pips' and blanks on / ordiriary dbriiinoesyare v replace*! by the emblems of two. "ecarte" packs of flaying cards, according to a specified; arrangement. An "ecarte" pack contains ' only thirty-two cards, for all cards below the seven- are. excluded. Ay poker-domino is like an ordinary doijiino with the exceptiori that it has two card emblems on its face, insteiid of dots. The "doubles" jn dominoes ; have their equivalents m which are called the "grand" cards— of which there are eight. The grand cards have on them one large emblem, such as the qiieeri of clubs or ,__. the ace of -> spades, which m each ; case "~" counts double its ordinary value. _ Each poker-domino has its numerical value; written m the corners, arrived at by counting the se vein as one, and upwards to; th© ace, which counts eight points. Thus the doiriino bearing the seven of hearts and the king of clubs counts eight.. , .;>,.-. Two kinds of games can be played with poker-dominoes-^-dornino games and card games. The former are phYyed by match, ing the end of the various stones, as ' m dominoes, only there are numerous Varia. Card games such as poker, whist, vinge-et-un, and 100 are easily adapted. The inventor of the game is Mr Burns, of Mitre-court, who told an Express re< presentative that he invented it because he saw that dominoes were so popular iri London restaurants. ' He. has lived a number of years m Paris, ' where they play cards constantly m cafes, arid as ,cards are forbidden m London, he hit upon, the id£& of applying the card principle to dominoes to add newness and variation to 'the> old games.
