SUNDAY SCHOOL CONFERENCE.
The Sunday School .teachers of the schools m the parish of Holy Trinity and those of Waerenga-a-hika, Patutahi, and Te Karaka districts met for a conference at Holy Trinity yesterday. Proceedings opened with a celebrating of the Holy Eucharist m the Church at 11.30 a.m., the Rev. L. Dawson Thomas being celebrant, and the Rev. M. W. Butterfield acting as deacon.. The conference met m the school room at 2 p.m., the Rev. L. D. Thomas being m the chair. The Rev. M. W. Butterfield delivered a short address on the principles and methods of Sunday school teaching, and the advantages of conferences. The speaker invited discussion on the points he had raised. The Rev. F. W. Chatterton emphasised the desirability of arranging for*lectures by trained teachers, and the value of methodical and systematic work. With regard to the reading of the Bible m class, on the motion of Mr F. C. Long, a resolution was carried that the use of the revised version is desirable, and that m the infant classes doctrinal teaching should be chiefly based upon the historical portions of Holy Scripture. Several of the teachers present took part m an animated discussion and very useful suggestions were made. This conference is the first of a system of regular conferences organised under the direction of the Diocesan Synod. The Rev. M. W. Butterfield was elected secretary, Messrs W. H. Roberts. C. Parsons, G. Lysnar, Mrs Parsons, Miss Wilson, and Miss Beeson, together with the Clergy (ex officio) were appointed a committee to arrange for future conferences.
