A STRANGE AFFAIR.
YOUNG MAN AND A REVOLVER.
A strange shooting affair is reported from Fairfield, near Waipawa, where it is stated a young man named Broad, aged 21, attempted to shoot himself, and now lies in a precarious condition in Waipawa district hospital. It appears that Broad had been avorking for Mr Watson at Fairfield, and left his employment some five months ago. He returned on Monday, and asked to see Mr Watson, but that gentleman was not at home. He then requested a girl who was employed there to talk to Mm. She refused for some time, but at the request of a friend consented. It is alleged that after a short conversation he presented a loaded revolver at her. She kept cool and pushed it aside, and Broad put it into his pocket. The girl tried to get the weapon from liim, but was unsuccessful. Broad then rode towards the men's whare, and fired a shot iii the air as he was riding along. He then went to another whare, wliich was closed, and returned to the verandah of the men's whare, where he shot himself in the left temple. Medical aid was summoned, and he was removed to the hospital, where he lies in an unconscious condition.
