GISBORNE-MOTU RAILWAY.

WAIKOHU BRIDGES CONTRACT LET.

As announced in the Public Works Statement, delivered in the House last evening by the Acting-Minister for Public Works, the Hon. Jas. . McGowan, the Government have decided to proceed .with the next step in the construction of the Gisborne-Motu railway — the erection of tlie Waikohit bridges. After a lapse of about three months since the tenders closed, Messrs P. McLoughlin and t Co., of Gisborne, were advised tlus morning by the Under-Secretary for Public Works that their tender liad been accepted. Tlie amount of the tender is about £8200 for the Waikohu combined rail and traffic bridge and two smaller structures. Tlie'' bridges are to be erected upon tlie usual truss style, and will have spans of BQft and 40ft_. Messrs McLoughlin and Co. are a well-known local firm of contractors, apd are at present , completing the erection of the Roebuck road bridge on behalf of the Borough. Tliis year's vote for the Gisborne-Motu railway is £20,000, the same as in the previous year.
