... WELLINGTON, last night. At the Presbyterian Assembly to-day the Treasurer presented the annual' statement, .which showed all the funds were in a most satisfactory condition. It was stated there was a large balance to credit, of the China Mission fund, which would warrant the Church mak-; ing a. forward movement in that direction. A discussion took place in reference to ;the bequest of £100 left for the Presbyterian Orphanage, which it was proposed to pay to the Dunedin Presbyterian Orphanage until the Assembly should otherwise determine. The Rev. G; Mutfro urged the claims of' Auckland., Eventually it was decided to retaip t&e legacy on behalf of the Orphanage funds. A fraternal letter was received from Bishop Wallis, of Welling-, ton.' A ■', report was submitted on the state -of religion, and giving answers! to questions submitted by the Committee' to ministers. The Theological Committee's -report stated that : 2S students attended during the session, and that the receipts exceeded the expenditure by £54.65..
Reports on aged and infirm ministers' funds were adopted, showing: South fund, capital last y^ar £10,042, income for year £1323, outlay £367, present capital £10,398; North fund, capital last year £6926, income £919, outlay £587, present capital £7258. v Widow's and ■ orphans' funds showed: North, capital last year £1Q>777, income £1035, outlay' £191, present capital £11,621; South, capital last year £13,---843, income £1281, outlay £880, "present capital £14,224. •'• " The • following were appointed on Church Courts: Revs. P.' J. Riddle, J. M. Fraser, \J. O. C. Cosh, Smith,, -and D. A. Anderson. Mr Miller is to continue another year as home missionary at' Motitkarara, Canterbury; Mr Rull, at Patea,' till June of, next year; and Mr . J. P.. Bathgate at Helensville; -, ':' A letter conveying greetings and congratulations was received- from the president^ of-; the Primitive Methodist Conference. ■- '' ,- •• /
: A "Youth of the Church" evening took place to-night, there being a large congregation. The Rev. J. C. Jamieson, organising, secretary of the Bible Class movendent, delivered an address on the growth of Bible classes. He said the 'Bible class membership of the Presbyterian Church • had gone up 300 per cent within the past five years. There - were now altogether 9000 members. .'"'■■.' : • ' ■
The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union was held, this, afternoon, the Moderator of the General Assembly presiding. After the annual -report was read Miss Cochin, late of Madagascar, gave particulars of the conditions in that island.-- ' The' Rev; G. H. McNeur, of Canton, described -his labors, and experiences - there, 'and Mrs Milne, from the New Hebrides, told of the spread of Christianity in that group.
