SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION.
(Per Press Association.) OHRISTOHimCH, this day. Information has been received m Christ* church that the scientific expedition to the sub-Antarctic islands will not be able to- leave the/! Bluff until November 13th. The ; date fixed ■originally v?as 7th, hup the Hinemoa, which will take the expedition, lias been delayed 1 at the light - houses and will visit "Preservation liset. It will consequently not be able to get t6 the Bluff on the latter date. Dr Cockayne has received a letter form Mr G: A'llport, secretary to the Marine 5 Department, stating that the, Colonial Secretary has. given permission' to take ten of each of the following birds from the Islands to be placed on Kapiti Island. The Auckland Islands, snipe; the Snares, snipe; the Antipodes' Island:, parrakeet; the Auckland Island, parrakeet ; the Shares, fern bird; the Chatham Islands, robin; and the Auckland Island, ducks. ■ Captain Bollons of the Hinemoa, has* been instructed to give Dr. Cockayne every assistance m his power, m order to secure these birds. Dr. Cockayne is making arrangements for taking supplies of food for the bird| on the voyage ' back from the islan<to. » ';■'-■■;
