. The Christchurch correspondent of the Wellington Post telegraphs : Mr S. Turner, representing Miller and Riley London, has an interesting story to tell of butter and clieese prospects for the season, which lie considers verv promising. He sees nothing to prevent 10|d to lid net f.o.b. for butter, and 6d to 6jd net f.o.b. for cheese, being returned to the factories in the coming season. The statistics, as far as he can gather, indicate that there will !be a shortage in Australia, that there 16 a shortage in Siberia, and that Canada is supplying 150,000 boxes of butter less this year than last, owing to an increased production of cheese, and in Australasia factories are also turning their attention more to cheese than hitherto. It was estimated that the increa&a. in the production of cheese in Australia and New Zealand would be about 8000 tons, but that is not equal to 4 per cent, of the total consumption of .Great Britain. In spite of the dact that Canada] is producing comparatively little butter, a shortage of cheese there is reported. The outlook for. cheese is therefore very promising, and the consumption sems to be overtaking the supply. New Zealand, Australia, and Canada are the only tlu?ee countries capable of increasing their supply of cheese, and therefore there appears to be no prospect of any overproduction to any extent likely to bring prices down.
