TURANGANUI BOWLING CLUB.
T v he third annual meeting of the Turanganui Bowling Club was held in the Record Reign hotel last night, Mr G. Mathewson presiding. The secretary, Mr C. J. Bennett,' submitted the following report :— " ln submitting the third anunal report and balance sheet, your committee would congratulate you on the sound position of the Club. Members will note that the' mortgage account has been reduced from £259 5s 4d to £240 16s, although the bank overdraft has increased considerably ; this is accounted for by the fact that all accounts owing against ! buildings, etc., have been paid, leaving practically no outstanding liabilities, and the profit and loss account snows an in- . crease of £22 Is 4d. over last year's amount; it now stands at £142 14s 7d. The working expenses for the year have been jf airly hea,yy consequent upon the amount of attention given to the green in the; way of top dressing,; etc.^ but this is, no^likely to occur again for a while, and w© have every reason to believe that We wjll, this season, have a green to play on second to none, and think that members Jyill fully justify the expenditure. Several competitions were played during t';e year, the one that attracted the most attention. was the* one for Mr Bennett's cUi 1 , jvhich. was won by Mr J. Martin, and \ve would congratulate hinV upon his success. A most enjoyable series of games took place between the Gisborne and our Club, \and whilst; suffering defeat on their green we turned the tables on our friendly opponents when they visited us, and we have no doubt that if our members give the same amount, of devotion to the game this season as in the past we will be quite able to hold our own with the best?' ; ■ , In .moving the adoption, of the report and balance sheet the Chairman thought they icould congratulate themselves, to a; : certain extent vat any rate, upon .the past feeason. Tlie balance sheet did not look really first-class, but for a young Club was not so bad. It took some time to put a new green in good order. Taking ij> all round^they were still in a very good -position. They showed close on £200 . assets. It was very satisfactory compared with, the initiating of the Gis- J borne Club. 'The Chairman mentioned that the green was to be connected with the water supply, .which would do , away with, the windmill. : , iMr Nasmith (jun.) thought the r6port should have mentioned the trophies donated by Messrs, Matthewson and Morse.— ln seconding tlte adoption of the rep f brt Mr B. Hird said he thought the that) ks of the Club were due to the ■Ji»noM of, tjrophies. .-. , .-. . ;The election ;of officers resulted as follows — JF'fesjident, Mr G. Matthewson y yice-pyesident, Mr D. Hepburn; secretary, MivW. O. Skeet; treasurer, Mr W. tr. Nasmith, senr. ; auditor, Mr ,C. J. Eeni>ett; com.tnittee, Messrs J. Martin, A. Sawyer, R. 1 Burke, C. J. There Were some who : would make good members who could not afford £4 4s. He thought they could try it for one year. Mr Bennett seconded the 'motion. He thought it would-be to the benefit of the Club. -;■ . ! ~ - ■:■■ / ; , .• • .._.. ■■ „....'■ Mr Gaudin sttpported the motion. Right through 'New Zealand there were very few clubs that charged even £1 Is. There were many young men who would like to join the club, but to pay £4 4s' was rather a krge amount to go away on sport. --A:- ..:'-.' -'■■ ••. . ;-.■■ '.'•'•..' '■ ■•■-..■' .: Mr Neild said he knew several men who would have become < members but were fiighterifed when the amount of sHb'jcription \ytLs mentioned. , ' The motion was carried unanimously. i The matter "of caretaker was left to the committee. to decide.: Mr Colley thought there were some members of dther. greens, who lived in their district,,, but he. did not wish to entice them away from other clubs. It wculd be hard for some of them, to belong to two greens.. He, asked whether it would be advisable to charge them half the ordinary fee. The fault with their Club was because they had not suf. ficitat number of skips.— The Chairman i Let each player choose his own Club.— Mr Hue' said h« knew a gentleman who said >he-. would riot join their Clubr on account of the gYeen.— Mr Gaudin said there was, nothing to stop members : helonging to two or three Clubs, only the rule*, of the -Association provided/ tlwt he had to state { .which Club he would play ior- when entering for a match. ■J: A*. the suggestion of Mr Colley it was decided tp- have afternoon tea on the green every Thursday afternoon.
