THE SONOMA IN COLLISION.

Canadian papers' by the R.M.S. Moana report that the rriail steamer Sonoma, well known here m connection with Spreckels' service, has been m collision. The Scnonia, wliich is at present running under charter, was proceeding -'from San Francisco to "British Columbia, and when 27 miles north- west of Point Arena she collided with the three-masted schooner Advance, lumber-laden for San Francisco. ThirdOfficer Keanealy was on watch, and a few seconds before the collision lie saw a green light on the starboard bow. He starboarded his helm and a moment later saw a red light, the schooner having seemingly also gone to starboard. The Sonoma cut through the Advance just forward of the cathead, cutting the stem completely away. Tiie way was stopped, and thc Sonoma put about and lowered a boat, wheih took off Captain Oleen and seven men. The schooner became waterlogged, and m the morning a line was put on board. The steam schooner Coaster, Captain Higgins, was sighted, and asked to take the wreck inlftw. The Coaster refused to tow unless §the Advance was abandoned, which Captairi Olson and Captain Cousins of the Sonoma, refused to do. Tlie Sonoma then again took the vessel m tow, and started north, until the steam schooner Gualla was met, and thig vessel took the Advance m tow and brought her to San Francisco. The forward and main masts and upper part of the mizzen of the Advance came down from the shock of tlie collision and part of the mainmast was on the Sonoma's deck when she arrived The Sonoma suffered slightly, having part of her port rail forward broken away, some awning stanchions carried away aft, and some slight scratches on her bow.
