A pleasant echo of tbe Boer war conies with the ' announcement that Thomas Griffin, aged 25, an ex-soldier of the Scottish Borderers, who fought m Soutb Africa, has been notified through a London firm of solicitors that a Boer lady intends to., send him between £300 and £400. Griffin gave his coat to the lady, who was with a large number of refugees m an uncovered train. He pitied her, especially because she had two small children, one suffering from enteric. A storm was coming at the time, and the lady, who was a veldt cornet's wife, thanked him m Dutch, and made him understand that she wanted his name and address.
