TELEPHONE MURDER SEQUEL.

SUICIDE QF ACCUSED'S WIFE,

ZURICH, June 9. There Ims been a tragic sequel to the case of tlie American lawyer, Karl Hau, who was arrested m London m November and extradited on a charge of murdering his mother-in-law,. Frau Molitor, m Baden-Baden. The woman was lured from her home by a telephone call, and shot down m the street. Hau is mow m prison dn Carlsrulie; and will shortly stand his trial.

On Friday evening a well-dressed lady arrived at Pfaeffikon from Zurich, and went straight from the railway station to the baths m Lake Pfaeffikon. t>ne disrobed and entered the water, swimming among the other bathers. \ A few minutes later the bath attendant saw her quietly cease swimming and sink. He rowed out m a boat, dived, and brought her to the surface ? and rowed ashore. A doctor tried- every method of resuscitation, but without success. The dead woman's dress was examined and the following letter found: — "My nam c is Lina Hau, nee Molitor. I come from Treves, and am 31 years old. "It is utterly impossible for me to bear any longer the' grief I feel for my husband, now so far removed from me. Therefore I have decided to leave the world, hard though it is to. go when I think of my darling child." A la^ge amount of money # was found m the dead woman's pockets.

BERLIN, June 9. Though the report of Hau's confession is officially denied, it is believed that when his wife visited him m Thursday last he made certain admissions which definitely convinced her of his being guilty of the murder of hef mother. There was a most distressing scene yesterday when Hau was told of his wife's death and realised the plight m which it left his four-year-old child. Hau's trial will probably take place early m July. It was reported by cable this week that Hau had been sentenced to death but had appealed. -
