The Montreal Star states that Sir Wilfrid Laurier is carrying on indirect pourparlers with foreign Governments, including Italy and Austria, respecting the acceptance of Canada's modified tariff. If nothing is done in the matter by the Imperial Conference Sir Wilfrid Laurier will be free tn proceed' with negotiations to admit Continetanl countries to benefits under the intermediate tariff.
