The Immigration League intend to invite several representative British farmers to visit Australia and see the opportunities offered to agriculturists. MELBOURNE, Sept. 6. An angry scene occurred m the House over the harvester duties. Mr Poynton, South Australian Labor member, characterised Sir Wm. Lyne's action m making the value of harvesters as £65 as monstrous. It was an unmitigated and brazeji .thing to do. The proposal ought to be scouted out of the House, when the Tariff Commission had fixed the value at £38. Mr Povnton advised Sir Wm. Lyne to admit that he had made a mistake and withdraw the Bill. Sir Wm. Lyne indignantly repudiated making a mistake. He accused the Tariff Commission of so bullying witnesses that they were afraid to give evidence. He declared that the Commission was consequently unable to get the true value of harvesters. This statement brought a storm of denunciation from the members of the commission. In the disorder which followed Sir Wm. Lyne threatened to smack Mr Kelly, and was called to order. The storm subsided as suddenly as it arose. The debate is proceeding. MELBOURNE, Sept. 7. His colleagues unanimously offered Mr Deakin a High Court judgeship, but the honor was declined. The Ngatiawa, bound from Greenwich to Auckland, has been signalled at Wilson's Promontory and reported all well. ADELAIDE, Sept. 7. As a result of the inquest on Mrs Ray, Dr Sheridan has been committed for trial for murder. He is stiH at large. PERTH, Sept. 7.
