DELIVERY OF MAILS.
(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, — -I think the publio have a just cause for complaint when a town the size of Gisborne only gets two mails a week fvom the South, but, to make matters worse-, when the steamer is delayed, as was the case on Saturday, as it was after five when she arrived, there was no delivery until Monday. Now, it would not have put the officials out veiy much to have sorted the mail and given a delivery over the counter for a couple of hours, to give people a chance to reply by Sundays boat. Why, sir, the meanest little township in -the South Island can boast of a daily mail, but here, in the flourishing city of Gisborne, we are fifty years behind the times. I should suggest a, petition being got iip and sent to the Postmaster-General, giving instructions that the mails should be delivered on tho date of the steamer's arrival, no matter if after five o'clock. What with our bad harbor and no certainty of mails, Gisborne will soon be a good place to get out of. — I am, etc., DISGUSTED
