The only ovidence taken to-day was that of Bishop Williams, one of the trustees. He stated that the lands of the Trust were leased to Archdeacon S. Williams. The annual revenue was used jn the maintenance of Te Aute College school and the Hukarere Native Girls' school. The; Trustees "approved of the system of education in the schools, though they did not iuterefere in the iictftils of the management, which in tlie case of the Te Aute school was in the hands of .the headmaster and the Archdeacon, and of the Hukarere school by Miss Williams. The accounts in connection with the Trust funds were submitted -annually to the Waiapu Diocesan Synod, and triennially to the General Synod. The present tenant had been in possession for many years, the Trustees considered he was entitled to some consideration in the way of renewal. Before entering into the existing lease, which was executed two or three years ago, and is for twelve years, a valuation of the property was made by an independent and competent valuer, and they also had the land tax valuations. The present rent was considered a perfectly fair, one, taking these valuations into consideration. Witness was satisfied that taking all the circumstances , into consideration the Trustees had done all they could for the trust, and under the present management the school had developed, .into. ,. au-vimportant -. institution, wellknown throughout the colony. In addition to the Trust funds, the money for the Hukarere building' was iprivately subscribed, and a great deal of money had been spent there and at Te Aute by | Archdeacon Williams out of his own private pocket. The Commission then adjourned until Thursday. WELLINGTON, last night. The find practically proves the extension of a lower seam similar to the Coalbrookdale, underlying about 1000 acres of the property, and an upper seam of hard, bright coal of excellent quality, and about six feet in thickness, and is stated to be equal to the very best quality of coal produced from the Buller coalfields. In addition to the above, on the western boundary 300 acres contain a valuable extension of the Granity Creek seam, with about three and a half million tons of coal, bringing the aggregate up to 26£ million tons, or equal to an output of a quarter of a million tons per year for a century. The discovery has been verified by Mr Broome, the Company's' engineer. CHRISTCHUROH, last night. Fenn, of Stewart and Fenn, electrical engineers, in respect to a declaration made as to dutiable goods, was continued today before Ma- G. W. Widdowson, S.M. The firm had ordered an electrical plant from Brush and Co., and wihen the invoice and goods arrived the usual declaration was made as to value, the figures of the invoice being accepted as correct. Brush and Co. had since sent a declaration that the dutiable goods, instead of being of the value of £60, liave been valued at £160, the mistake having been made by their clerk. The goods we_e in the meantime detained and confiscated. Evidence was given for the defence. Mr Fraser, for the Crown, said the declarations were made by importers who had special knowledge, and were the only people who had that knowledge. The man who said "I do not know," or "I never gave tho matter a, thought," was guilty of fraudulently concocting a scheme for defrauding tho Customs. His Worship reserved hi6 decision. On tho information under section 243, a summons charging Fenn with being knowingly concerned in fraudulent evasion was dismissed, no evidence being called on it.
