FORMOSAN EARTHQUAKE.

SYDNEY, May 14* Details of the Formosan earthquake show that 1106 people were killed, 1862 wounded, 3832 houses destroyed, and 2121 partially destroyed. Early on the morning of March l?th the inbabitants near Kagi were startled by several slight shocks, followed by a severe jone, accompanied hy subterranean explosions. The shocks continued at intervals of five to ten minutes all day. Ihey, continued through the day -follow* <ng> and abated on the nineteenth, Tho devastated area is about thirty square miles. , The surface is much cracked m all directions, and water spurted up several feet, In some parts the lahd subsided and lakes formed, and in other places exuding mud formed hillocks.
