CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor of the Herald.)
Sir, — Mr TTios. S. Lewis uses, one word m his letter Avhich 1 object to ; tlio word is fads. If Mr Lewis would kindly re-read my letters he will see that 1 have not brought the "personal element" into the question. The subject being a large and costly matter to the ratepayers, all who may argue upon it should carefully avoid being led aside from the two points which must be sol-A-ed if the ratepayers wish to haven decent harbor. The poinnts .-tic the river silt and the sand-drift from the west. The ratepayers and members of the Board Avill untimately honor Mr A. I*. Ross's suggestion — which is one personally made to me— because after they have studied the question and settled all side issues they will come to the conclusion that the harbor must be outside, and then crops the question Avhich Mr Ross met and soK-ed : the question is, how, if the harbor is to be outside, can we utilize the £80,000 which is the A^alue roughly of the brcakAvaler. ' i am at present aAvaiting the outcome of the next meeting of the Board to sec if the members have given any study to the notices of motion, to sec if they can get a step j forward. If they have not given any ! study to the matter, I may go into the financial aspect of the question. I think the ratepayers would be interested. I suppose you know, Mr Editor, that the harbor is costing the ratepayers £800 per week, year m year out, and that the capital producing value of the behind. H|HHHHH_M-li 000.— Yours etc.j^^H^^^^^l^^H
