T E RANGI PAI.

The fa);cwcil concert tendered to To Rangi l'ai at His Majesty's Theatre last night was very largely attended, and the big audience w,as strong testimony to the high regard m which the great contralto is held. She again met with a hearty reception, and received double encores for several of her songs. Popular numbers had been selected by Mrs Howie, including the favorite,' "The Beating of my own Heart" (encore, "The Cuckoo% "The. Lost Chord," "Ben Bo|t," "Gopd-by" (Toßti)r She also sang beautifully two Irish melddies. For "Tho Lost Chord" she received an imperative encore, and delighted the audience m responding .'with "My Old Kentucky' Home, "' which was expressively treated. Selections from "The Mikado" opera by Mrs Howie and Mr A. F. Kennedy Avere amongst the artistic successes of the evening. The sweetness and power of the contralto vocali* sation Avas much admired m her singing of "There is Beauty m the Bellow or the Blastl" while Mr Kennedy gave a fine rendering of his part m the duet, "Tit Willow." The item was warmly applauded. Quartettes by Mr and Mrs Kennedy and Dr and Mrs Buckeridge, "The Merry Miller" (Rob Roy) and "The Tinkers" wore presented with pleasing harmony and effect. An encore was vociferously called for. Mr F. Teat, sang "Tribe as a Compass" With his Usual success, and Dr Buckeridge's song, "Gipsy Jt>hn," receiA'ed excellent treatment. Bpth singei-B met with a hearty reception. Two recitations, "Dutch Philosophy," and "Betsy," were given by Mr Kennedy with great elocutionary power. An Instrumental duet hy Messrs A. J. Mttssey (violin) and Mr Foster (flute), aijid tho Club Orchestra's solections added greatly to the enjoyment of the concert, which Avas an unqualified success, ajnd an appropriate send-off to a local singer who has attained deserved celebrity iin tho wider world of the Homeland.
