• In acknowledging the receipt of a resolution passed at a meeting of New Zealanders m Kalgoorlic to celebrate the Government victory at the recent election, the Premier says that if all goes well, he hopes to visit Australia m about three months' time. — Post.
I The mild boom m mining shares m Auckland (says the Dunedin Star) has drawn some attention from most other parts of New Zealand, and is responsible for a slight awakening of interest locally m mining affairs m Auckland, and, incidentally, for the following story of a slice of good luck. Some 12 months ago a dissolution of partnership m connection with an Auckland firm was being arranged, and one of the principals agreed to take over a parcel of 3000 Waiotahi shares. They were then regarded as practically worthless. Calls wero being made on them, but this soon ceased,' as the rich reef now being worked was struck. The company's capital was "watered" from £6000 to £60,000, and as values have risen to £6 per share the foitunato holder of the original parcel of 3000 shares can reckon the value of his scrip at £180,000. He has lately been drawing £3000 a month m dividends on these shares.
