MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.
Although shearing operations are now m lull swing there was even more than the average attendance of fanners at the Matawhero stock sales to-day. Bidding was not too brisk, however, but most of the lines changed hands, if not tinder the hammer they found purchasers subsequently. The prices m slieep wero not altogether brisk, there being no spirited demand. There were good yardihgs of cattle. Messrs Williams and Kettle offered over 500 head. The opening prices were satisfactory. Messrs Common, Slielton and Co., and Messrs Dalgety and Co., report that with cawe the entries were very small and of indifferent quality, being mostly old cows, lor which there was little demand. In sheep they yarded about 750 2-tooth wethers. A line of 673 sold at 12s, and the balance (culls) at 10s.
Messrs Williams and Kettle and the N.Z. Loan Company yarded more than the advertised quantity of stock, including about 800 head ol cattle, 250 being from Taranaki. The following sales were realised :— Sheep : 107 hoggets 16s, 41 hoggets 10s, 8 lambs 12s, 3 lambs 12s 6d, 4 fat lambs 10s 6d, 6 lambs 12s, 32 forward ewes 12s 2d, 21 ditto 95. . Pigs : 2 porkers 325, 3 porkers 10s. Horses : 1 black gelding ±._O, ditto £13. Cattle : 1 cow with bull calf £6 ss, 2 calves 12s, 1 dairy cow £6 ss, 1 beef cow £4 12s, l red cow m full milk £6, cow with bull calf £5 4s ,1 dairy cow £5 7s 6d, 1 white heifer and calf £4 ss, 2 Jersey bull Calves lbs, 2 calves, 4 heifers £2 2s bd, 1 heifer £2 10s, 1 cow and calf £4 2s 6d, 1 black cow m calf £5 2s 6d, 1 black cow £5 2s 6d, 3 calves (good condition) 32s ou. A line of 26 fresh cows, big frame, from Taranaki, sold at £3 10s 6d apiece ; and another similar pen brought £4 2s.
