HOW TO VOTE. I SCORE OUT THE TWI BOTTOM LINES AS FOLLOWS : I vote that the nnmoer o? Licenses existing In the district Continue ■l-TOto that no Umm ho grcatcd in tho Met . OPINION OF A PROMINENT PROHIBITIONIST RESIDENT IX MATAURA. (UOI'V.) To the lulitor, Mataura Ensign. Sir, — We cull tliis a prohibition district, but it is so only in n.iinc. Why should we prevent drink being sold here, when the law allows it to come into the district like any commodity? Take tliis town (Mutaura) for instance. Some say it has done good to several "old topers." I grant it has to a certain extent, but even they may be seen now and then the Avorse lor liquor. But what I deplore most is the number of young lcllows who have gwit in for drinking heavily since prohibition was carried, ruining theniiielves fast, body and soul. There ara many in this place who band together and get liquor, and* then spend a nigJit, yea two or three nights, in debauchery in huls or out-of-the-way places. Weie'tho parents respectable people, to be told this they would not believe it. To-night 1 had occasion to go to a Government olhcc on business, and though there was a light in the office the door was locked. Before the door wun opened I wm* questioned as to who I was. When il was admitted to an atmosphere thick with smoke, there was the tuimislukeublc odour of liquor. As no one seems inclined to say anything publicly and try to prevent the ruin of thesi; young fellows, I beg that you will giant me space in your columns for the above. I am, etc., M.itama, July 4, 1905. A. N. MACGIBBON.
