AFFAIRS IN SAMOA.
♦ Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, this day. Dr. Solf, Governor of Samoa, on August L 4 addressed a large assembly of the miefs and official's at Mulinuu, the scene ]f the disturbance m April last, when several native chiefs were liberated from gaol. The captain and officers of the warship Condor w*re also present. Dr. 3olf dispersed the Taimua and Faipule, ivho were his native councillors, and ireated a new Council. He said the deposed chiefs and officials took advantage )f his absence and followed the advice if people who had no love for Samoa, riiey imposed taxes without authority, md went so far as to commit an act of Violence. He found nowhere m Samoa was there iiny sympathy with the wrongioers. A decision regarding Mataafa had lot yet been made clear from Berlin. Regarding other offenders, tbe ringleaders, Moefaano and Lanati, would be deported, md others fined and dismissed. He added that he wanted it made perfectly clear that there was no difference between the Grovernment- for Samoa, and the general government of a colony. There was only me Government m. Samoa, that of the 3erman Emperor. There was no room m the Government for Tumua and Pule.
