SPEECH BY THE PREMIER.
(Per Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The Premier was entertained at a banquet last night. Referring 'to the A-d---vances to Settlers' Department, he said it was'preparedl to give Crown tenants equal terms with freeholders. He dwelt at length on the question of State fire insurance, andi said the Government bad) no desire to keep up a cutting competition with the insurance companies, as there was room for both. He jocularly remarked that he had an offer to go to America to teach the Yankees New ZeaOand laws, so that M-hen the colony was tired! of him he liad something to fall back on.
