Mr McKillpp, the bandmaster, has had) the band m constant practice- for some time, and there is no doubt the public will appreciate the bandfs efforts. A collection will be taken up m aid* of the band funds. Porter's Hall, one of Gisborne's oldest buildings, was put up at auction by Williams and Kettle to-day. There were a number of prospective buyers, and the bidding went from £10 to £47, at which figure it was knocked! down to Mr W. A. O'Meara. The building occupied by Messrs McConnell and MMlington and Mr H. J. Bushnell was disposed of to Mr Bartlett, of the Cafe Monico, /or £8 10s. A busy time is anticipated m local shipping oircles >next week, when, m addition to the. usual, steamer services, the following sailing vessels are expected to make port : Schooners Awanui, Gisborne, Waiapu, scows Wanderer, Three Cheers, and Haare. Messrs Richardson and Go's steamers from Napier are expected, and also the U.S.S. Go's Herald from the Coast port* with wool. On Monday three Home steamers will be loading for Loudon, the Tokomaru, Paparoa and Marere, for which the whole of the local lightering fleet will be , employed.
