ress Assn. — By Telegraph. — Copyright. (Received August 29, 9.12 a.m.) LONDON, August 28. The Union Company's new turbine teamer Loongana on her trial trip atained a speed of 20 knots.
Some interesting detail's about the Union Steam Ship Company's new turbine steamer Loongana, which is to replace the Pateena m the Launceston trade during the coming season, are given m the Steamship. The first-class passengers of the Loongana, of whom sue lias room for 240, will l be accommodated amidships and forward of the boilers, m staterooms which are fitted with all modern conveniences. The dining saloon is situated m a steel deckhouse on the upper ;deck, where passengers embark, ' from which "T" stairs lead down to the main deck accommodation, and up to the vestibule and music room on the deck above. The second-class accommodation, which is situated abaft the turbine, is somewhatsimilar to the first-class m comfort and convenience, differing only from it m the plainer finish of the various apartments. A feature has been made o£ the ventilating system, which consists both of natural draught ventilators and electricallydriven fans. The appliances for working the vessel at the terminal ports are very powerful, and consist of a windlass forward and warping winch aft. While the vessel is primarily intended for the pasSLMiger trade, she will carry a limited amount of cargo, for the rapid handling of which, together with the mails, she is fitted with dSoubte derricks and a winch at each hatchway. She lias been fitted with tliree sets of turbines by Messrs Parsons, the boilers, etc., being supplied by Messrs Denny and Co., Dumbarton.
