The members of the Auckland Land Board this morning refuted statements made m Parliament by Messrs Lawry Kirkbride*, Lang, and Witty concerning Matamata. At the Magistrate's Court four of the witnesses for the defence inrtho recent sly-grog cases were charged with illegally dealing m liquor. The defence ,was tliat they were lawfully on the* premkes, two of them being boarders. The Magistrate disbelieved the defence, and convicted each accused and fined them each 20* and costs.
