The Star Boating Club (Wellington) closes its year with 360 members, and a credit of a little over £10. During the season it won £67 at regattas at the expenditure of over £100. The total income of the club was £750. Two Wellington booksellers were convicted by the Magistrate last week for selling copies of the New York National Police Gazette, on the ground that they contained offensive advertisements. The action was taken by the police with a view to stop the sale of offensive publications. As this is the first prosecution m regard' to tliis particular paper, which is m circulation m various parts of the colony, defendants were only ordered to pay costs.
