FREEZING WORKS SUPPLY.
The reply of the directors of the Gisborne Freezing Works to the Borough Council was somewhat disappointing. During the many discussions that have taken place upon the water question the people havo been led to believe that the consumption for factories would be considerable, and the Gisborno works have been quoted as requiring something like 100,000 gallons of water a day. Now it is officially stated that they will not require more than 40,000 gallons, wJiich seems a small quantity for such extensive works. We are inclined to think that when "water is brought into the town the works will prefer to utilise the certain supply to the uncertain. The extraordinarily wet summer now being experienced may have lightened the company's difficulties, but m a period of drought their tankage and spring supplies are almost certain to be affected, and viewing that probability it is to be regretted thoy did not see their way to give a greater guarantee, which would have enabled the Council, perhaps, to have embarked upon a more extensive supply.
