CHARGES AGAINST A DOCTOR. Mleotrio Telegraph-Copyright— United Press Association) (Received Sept. 5, 10.12 a.m.) ADELAIDE, Sept. 5. A Board appointed to sift the charges against Dr Ramsay Smith began its enquiry yesterday. The cliarges are mutilating the bodies of dead persons, so as to shook the public conscience and offend against the criminal law. Counsel for the Crown stated there 1 were eighteen charges against Dr Smith, "s] consisting principally of allegations that the assistant coroner had taken possession of and mutilated dead bodies, the heads and other portions of which he liad shipped beyond the seas. Voluminous I correspondence was submitted, alleging • that he had cut off the heads of some * and had taken the skeletons of other bodies and sent them to Edinburgh, i A letter from Dr Smith pleaded that lie had followed a practice recognised and followed throughout the civilised world. What he had done was for the advancement of science, the alleviation of human suffering, and the advancement of his profession. '* \
