FOR THE FUTURE.
PRECAUTIONS NECESSARY. A gentleman who is well acquainted with the Waimangu Geyser, conversing with a Star reported, pointed out the utter impossibility of preventing tourists from approaching too near the unenclosed geyser, and suggested that the spot should be railed off to render a repetition, of fatalities impossible. "These accidents," he said, "will be of frequent occurrence until such time as the Government has actually fenced some portions of the place in. There are always venturesome people, anxious to outdo one another, and there is no doubt that the fact of Mr Warbrick and Mr Buckeridge crossing the lake as they did in a boat tended in a great measure to depreciate the danger. People M'ould think it was not en dangerous as they had been told. With 30 tourists beholding this view, how could two guides prevent them from straying upon dangerous ground? They would certainly venture in. dangerous places, and , the guides would be powerless to do anything but warn, them.. The only safe •■ way is .to fence dangerous portions of the place off entirely."
