SLY-GROG SELLING IN NATIVE DISTRICT.
DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. (Per Press Association.) KAWHIA, this day. The Premier and Minister of Lands arrived' on Saturday, Replying to a deputation, Mr Seddon Said the work of laying out and surveying the township, defining streets and extending the wharf should be put m hand without delay. Applications for roads and a steamer subsidy would receive careful consideration. A deputation of ladies waited upon the Premier, pointing out the evils of sly grog-selling m the district. Replying, he deplored the reported state of affairs, and it was the intention of the Government to deal fully with the matter. The Government would see the law strictly enforced, and minimise the evil as far as possible.
