A SHOCKING CASE.
♦ (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Some shocking disclosures were made at an inquest at West Oxford to-day on the body of Elizabeth Cumin, wife of John Curran, licensee of the Commercial Hotel at West Oxford. The woman was found dead m the hotel kitchen on Saturday night, and the evidence showed that she had been drinking heavily. Curran tried to get her out of the kitchen to the bedroom, but found her too heavy, and left her tliere. Later on a servant went m, and found the body lying on the floor, life being extinct. Nothing was placed under the woman's head, and she was just allowed to lie on the kitchen iloor. A medical man stated that the woman died from alcoholic poisoning, but. that the fact of being left lying on the floor without care or attention was alone liable to cause death. The Coroner commented on the callous behaviour of the husband. The jury returned a verdict tliat the husband showed groat negligence m leaving his wife lying on the floor m the state of health she was m, and not using sufficient precautions to prevent iher obtaining drink.
