Captain Kaad, of Fiji, was a passenger by the barque Zelateur which went ashore on entering the harbor at Wallis Island. After getting the vessel off he endeavored to get labor to discharge the copra which was <Sn board. The natives insisted on being paid 5s per day,, but Captain Kaad managed to engage the Mua natives at a less figure-. The Maiauta natives heaxing of. this endeavored to stop them from working, and attacked tho Mua tribe, the result being that several were badly wounded. A chief who was present eventually got the Matautu natives to go home, but they, being not satisfied, tlireatened to return and burn the Mua natives out. The whole day they were preparing for war. In the ' evening the Matauta natives again came to Mua. this time with guns, knives, etc., but the Rev. Fathers Htfnquel and Leiiiel, by a great deal of Uict and persuasion, managed to get possession, of tiie guns and also got them to leave the town, thus preventing them from doing any damage to jf. Captain Kaad had Deen advised to leave the town, and go aboard the ship. This he did, taking with him his cash and papers, where lie remained all night. The French mau-o'-wur Muerthe with, the Bishop arrived at the island on November 21st, where now everything is quiet.
