AUCKLAND, this day An old man named William Porter, an expressman", fell off a. cart in town, yesterday afternoon, and died at the Hospital at midnight of a fractured skull.

WAIPAWA, this day. The Hatuma branch of the Farmers' Union has passed a resolution requesting stock auctioneers^ to pay for purchase by cheques drawn on load banks or to add exchange to :those drawn otherwise.

WELLINGTON, this day. The Supreme Court was occupied today with a case of some importance as affecting the question of residence on Crown lands under lease in perpetuity. The Land Board forfeited the lease of Fairfield Thompson, on the grounds of non-compliance with the residential conditions. This decision will be appealed against.

The Tyneside Colliery Company are erecting bins and screens. The mine is clear of water, and in good condition, with a large quantity of good coal in sight. Owing to the backward state of the bins and screens it will b« two months before coal is in the market.
