RETURNING TROOPS.
« ■ — (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last nighl. In replying to enquiries by the Government, the -following cable message from Mr Pilcher, dated Capetown, Thursday, has been received: "Major Jackson and Captain Mitchell sailed by the Montrose with the Tenth, from Durban, on the 15th. No. 638 McGonagle is at Johannesburg, well; Trooper Kelland is convalescent, and on the way to Capetown ; Ernest Baker is convalescent at Elandsfontein; Trooper Atkins is progressing favorably at Newcastle ; Veteri-nary-Surgeon Mathews is recovering, and likely to sail on the 28th, with 20 other officers, from Capetown. The following, dated Albany, Thurs? day, was received by the Commandant, from Major Abbott, commanding the troops on the Orient: "The Orient arrived here this morning. The troops are all well. The total on board for Australia is 121; and for New Zealand, 63 officers and 1122 men, as follows: Ninth Contingent 62 officers and 1037 men, Eighth one officer and 14 men, Sixth 2 men, Seventh 10 men, Tenth 52 men. They are for various ports—Auckland 263, Wellington 298, Nelson 95, Lytteltou 261, Dunedin 268.
