At the Education Board this morning, F. W. Penyman gave notice to move, that the Board, having given, the Government's capitation grant of 11s 3d per head one year's trial, is painfully conscious of its insufficiency 1o meet the demand, and prays that the Government will at once increase the amount to 12s'per head. Owing to the scarcity of teachers to fill the smaller salaried jwsitions, the Board has decided to relax some of its rules as to length of service in certain, positions before applying for the higher.positions-. A resolution hoping the proposed Education Board's Conference would not be allowed to lapse was carried.
John Woodward, aged -63 years, a farmer of Spriiigstou, is reported to have suicided at five this morning by hanging himself to a tree near his house.
