Commission in South Africa reports a surprising influx of German traders. British traders are only beginning to awake. Americans are alert, especially in regard to specialisation of trade lines. One traveller is seeking orders for files alone, others similarly with other specialities. English firms expect a traveller to dealt with twenty articles,and the result is that the market is not thorougtly worked. The Houston line's freight" for fine Manchester goods to South Africa is fixed at ten shillings a ton.
