A fire destroyed the pi-ison at Bucharest. Six hundred prisoners threw themselves on the iron doors, screeching for mercy and cursing the gaolers, who were afraid to unlock the doors in the absence of the soldiers. Troops arriving, the doors were unlocked. The prisoners tried to escape, but were driven back withs-bayonets.
