The Poverty Bay Turf Club's annual meeting, commencing on Thursday next, promises to excell all previous meetings, should fine weather favor the Club. The arrangements are all up-to-date, 'md visitors to-the course this time will easily distinguish the vast improvements' made by the Club. Several horses that did not compete last week are taking part, and, judging by the great satisfaction announced by owners as to the handicapping,' winners will be very hard to pick, so good^ dividends ought to result, and the racing will be first-class. Mi- Danvers, the Club's lumdicapper, arrived last week, and has carefully followed the running of all horses, and, as before, is in a position to make his usual fine adjustments. The well-known and experienced starter, Mr H. Piper, arrives from Christchuroh to-morrow morning, and the public, as well as owners and backers, are sure to be satisfied to leave the horses in his hands. Jockeys must remember that they must be out a good quarter of an hour before starting time, as the Club, as heretofore, intend having no delays. . I For music Vita's Italian String Band has been engaged, which is sufficient gukrantee that this part of the programme is properly catered for. The dining-room is under the careful supervision of Mrs S. Erskine, and the booths are in the capable hands of Mr J. H. Martin (inside) and R. Graill (outside). The caretaker, Mr Robson, has everything looking nice and in splendid order. ■ As usual, the first race starts at 12.30, and as the Holiday Committee have agreed to dose all business places at 12 o'clock, the public will have ample time to get out and witness the first race. The Club are to be complimented on not allowing bookmakers or their agents on the course. The totalisators, as usual, arc. in the capable hands of Mr H. Martin, in whom the. public have every confidence.
