Lieutenant Hall, of the Bedfordshire Mounted, chased and captured 20 Boers at Vlakfontein. Colonel Barker in a fortnight cleared Bethlehem district, bringing 30 to Winburg. There were small, obstinate skirmishes, during which 17 were captured near Harrismith. Brussels advices state that Mrs Steyn and five children- have been deported. (Received Not. 20, 9.43 a.m.) BERLIN, Nov. 19. Students were mainly responsible for the anti-Chamberlain movement in Germany. At an anti-Semitic meeting in Berlin the lecturer urged the Boers to assassinate Mr Chamberlain, thus ridding Germany of a rascal fit for the gallows. Some in the meeting asked the Kaiser to personAlly rebuke Mr Chamberlain for his impudence. Hie Veteran League abandoned the outcry after receiving a bint from the Government. (Received Nov. 20, 9.43 a,m.) LONDON, Nov. 19. By the middle of January Lord Kitchener's columns will have been thoroughly freshened, and will also possess an abundance of remounts. A dozen militia battalions are also going to South Africa. Lord Kitchener's weekly report shows 43 Boers killed, 16 wounded, 291 prison-ers,-6 surrenders. Commandant Fouche is north of Jamestown, retreating rapidly towards Barkley East. ' Malan, Hugo, and Latigan, with 20 men. were pursued hard for several days towards Calvinia. All their spare horses were captured. Moutz, with 350 men, has been driven across the Berg river northwards. In the last encounter with DeWet, Prince Radziwill, of Kitchener'B Scouts, was dangerously wounded. Tiie Daily Chronicle exposes a pro-Boer cabal to capture the National Liberal Federation. Dr Leyds declare there will be peace without a guarantee* of independence. WELLINGTON, this day. A cablegram from Mr Pilcher gives the names of the three men returning on the Wilcania with Lieutenant Joyce as : 4495 Fanckragh, Dnnedin ; 3527 Morrish, Marlborough ; 3671 Tatham, Dunedin. The message states that 3358 Delaney, '"Wellington, has injured his knee, and is returning soon.
Xuree Hay, \of Dnnedin, writes from Johannesburg:— "Lord Kitchener at present goes about in peril of his life. Several attempts have been made lately, and now he always goes about with a large bodyguard, and his house (not far from here) always has double sentries on it"
