♦ Bleatrio Telegraph— Copyright - United Press Association. MELBOURNE, Nov. 18. Replying to Mr Pbilp's protest against the Kanaka Bill, Mr Barton declines to admit that the State legislation represents public opinion more truly than the Federal Parliament which Queensland helped to choose. No good ground existed for supposing that white labor is not available to carry on the sugar industry. Mr Barton adds that the Commonwealth will take the responsibiry of deporting the Kanaka, whatever the result maj be.
