MACLAREN'S DISAPPOINTMENT.

Maclaren, referring to his Adelaide defeat, said it was a very poor beginning, and he felt it very much. There would be a big chuckle in England. Still, he felt sure it was a good batting team. The Oval was flooded by yesterday's storm, and there are doubts if the Victoria v. England match can begin today.
Yesterday afternoon the Thursdi^y Competition matches were commenced on the Victoria Domain. The bud weather interfered with the progress of play, and about 4 o'clock a heavy southerly squafl caused the postponement of the games. WHATAUPOKO v. KAITI. The suburban teams met each other on the asphalt wicket. Whataupoko won the toss; and up to the cessation of play had stored 79 for the Joss of sue wickets. Hodge and Tattersall made a good stand for the first wicket, patting on 32 runs. Howard batted very nicely for his contribution, and is a stylish player. J.
