(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last nightWilliam John White was accidentally killed by a fall from a horse at Dargaville on Tuesday. The. Fruitgrowers' Conference has resolved: "That this Conference expresses regret that the Government has failed to carry out the promise of the Premier to amend the Workers' Compensation for Accidents Act so as to define the position of workers on the laud." It was also decided to endorse the action of the North Adelaide Vinegrowers' Association, urging the Government to enact a stringent Act for the prevention of adulteration of wine, and also to legalise facilities for the retail sale of New Zealandmade wines. The Conference also endorsed the action of the Whangarei Association in urging the Government to place a duty on oranges during September, October, and November, on lemons all the year round, and on lemon peel in brine. WELLINGTON, last night. By the San Francisco mail the secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce received a letter from the London Chamber of Commerce stating that active investigations were being .made regarding the pilfering of cargoes at the London docks. The Home Chamber is anxious to receive from merchants of Xew Zealand particulars of any robberies of goods, and printed forms are being sent out upon which information descriptive of stolen goods may be sent b*ck to London for the assistance of the detective force there. The Secretary of State for the Colonies Las cabled to Lord Rauforly expressing His Majesty the King's thanks for the "birthday greetings from New Zealand. NELSON, last night. At the Baptist Jubilee Conference the Rev. A. Dewdney submitted a bold proposal for the prosecution of home missions by placing ministers of experience in towns in which no Baptist Church exists, and by the unifying of the mission schemes of provincial auxiliaries. The report was adopted. In both cases influential committees are to b? set up to energetically prosecute the schemes. The Rev. J. Boreham submitted a report of the Baptist Almanac, which showed a circulation of 7250, and a balance in hand. In the evening a great jubilee demonstration was held in th. School of Music. The Rev. Dolamore, the pioneer minister, presided, and ud'.lresses ware delivered by the Revs. Mr Diillaston (Wellington) and Clark (Ancfcbii'l). The Rev. J. G. Greenhough, the representative from Britain, delivered a spkndid speech. His utterances were m« ,t warmly received, and greeted with gr--.it enthnsiasm. His satire provokes much laughter, and this evening he kept tli-.- audience in a continual storm of'applause by his magnificent oration. DUNEDIN, last night. At the annual meeting of the National Insurance Company, Mr J. M. Ritchie, chairman of directors, in moving the adoption of the report, recommending a dividend of Is 3d per share, said that at several points, notably in New Zealand, tht company had made no profit at all, bui at other points the company had done well. Thanks to the staff and a bit of luck thrown in, the company had not done -<u badly in non-paying districts as others hud done. The premium income had incifused nearly £6000, but of every 20s taken in premiums the company had saved for itself about 2s 2d, and the Board placed £10,000 to the reserve, becaus.j they believed they had a slice of iuek this year, and were not justified in distributing more of the profit. The report was adopted, and Messrs. J. M. Ritchie and Keith Ramsay were re-elected directors. ....-• - ........
