THE GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Social Pest, who has gone lame behind, was scratched for the Grand National at 8.30 to-night, CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Splendid weather favored the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting, and there is a large attendance. The going is in first-class order. Totalisator dividends were paid on first and second horses. The results are : — Hunters' Hurdles, 50 sovs ; once round and a distance : Larboard Watch 1, Jester 2, Mangatira 3. All started. Won comfortably, after leading all the way. Time 3min 11 4-stii sec. Divs., Larboar. Watch £14 17s, Jester 11s 6d. Maiden Hurdles, 150 sovs ; If miles Huku 1, The Hempie 2, Dartmoor 3 Derringcotte was scratched, leaving onl; four in, and in consequence the dividen ' was only paid on the first horse. Hukr took the lead after passing the last fence, and won by a length and a-half, Daitmoor a good third. Time, 3min 25 4-5-t' sees. Div., £6 13s. Winter Cup, of 30 sovs. ; one mile : Ostiak 1, Mars 2, Battleaxe 3. All steited. Ostiak led throughout and wsk easily by a couple of lengths. Tim?, lmin 44 4-ssec. Divs., Ostiak £6 6d Mars £8 8s 6d.
