PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, thig day. Friday is definitely fixed for the delivery of the* Financial Statement. Though there have been heavy clearances of tea and other merchandise during the past week, the impression in generally wellinformed political circles is that the Customs tariff will not be interfered' with, but that the additional revenue required will be raised from an increased graduation of the land tax, as hinted at by the Premier on more than one occasion during the present session. RATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUES. The Bating on Unimproved Values Bill debate will be continued this evening: The Premier will be satisfied to get the second reading, and will then abandon the measure. - v THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL. The Committee on the Local Government Bill have decided to postpone all the clauses relating to road boards and town boards, and refer -them to those bodies for consideration, and road boards and town boards will be permitted to telegraph their suggestions and recommendations free. The Committee expect to be deliberating for three weeks longer. Mr Martin, solicitor to the Municipal Association, is to be asked to assist the Committee, as in the case of the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill.
