The New Plymouth Harbor Board have rseeolved that chairmen of Harbor Boards and of similar public, bodies ought not to be paid for their services.
A tablet m memory of Trooper W. T. Earle, of the Second Contingent, was unveiled m St. Mark's Church, Riversdale, Otago, on Wednesday. Major Cradock, m a letter to deceased's father, said: "Trooper Earle knew no such word as fear, and surrender was not m his vocabulary. Though threatened by large odds of twenty Boers, he calmly dropped on his knee, prepared to do or die, and met a noble death with his face to the enemy."
