PRESBYTERIAN UNION.
(Special to Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day. Final steps towards - the consumma' ion of the uuion of the Presbyterian Churches in New Zealand were taken at a pro re nata meeting of the Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland in the old First Church Hall last evening. t Several obstruction motions were proposed, and numerous points of order cropEed up, the decision of the (Moderator eing twice., reversed by the vote of the Synod; but though there was a .vigorous debate and strongly. expressed opposition," the resolutions were carried with vbut three dissentients. It was stated-that the Bill concerning the disposition of the properties of the Church,, adopted at last Synod, hart been taken charge of by Mr McNab, M.H.R., and that the Union Committee will take all the steps consequent and necessary upon the passing of the Bill through Parliament. A conference of the Union Committees will be held probably irifthe Church to a,rrange details. The Synod by resolution fixed the last week in October as the time for the inaugural meeting of the United AsIn all probability ,-tbe ; dav will be October 31st. Some appropriate and striking ceremonial will be determined upon, and as far as possible the proceedings will -correspond with those which have characterised the recent uuion of the Free and United Presbyterian . Churches in Scotland.
